Description

Bechtheim

The special feature of this wine lies above all in the origin of the grapes. These come from four different locations around Bechtheim, which are characterized in particular by their different soil types. The layers create the basis for a Riesling with a distinctive character and herbal aromas. To increase quality, the Riesling grapes are green harvested in early summer. The full power of the vines is distributed to a smaller amount of grapes. In addition, the berries have enough space to develop freely without squeezing each other.

During the selective harvest by hand, the grapes are carefully placed in small standard containers and, when they arrive at the Dreissigacker winery, are gently pressed with their feet. We also proceed gently during the pressing process – the mash is pressed in several passes and over several hours.

Vintage

Coming exclusively from prime locations around Bechtheim, this is a village wine which reflects more the respective terroir. Challenging but favourable vintage: Hot, dry and sunny summer with an early flowering and a fast ripening process. The weather conditions continued into the harvest, allowing many grapes to stay on the vine right up to October. Of course, the drought also led to water stress in some regions. Since temperate heat and cool nights dominated in September and October the grapes remained healthy and were able to develop intensive aromas.

Wine

Skin contact for up to 48 hours with spontaneous fermentation in 20% wooden barrels & 80% stainless steel vats. After fermentation, the wine is left on its lees. On the nose aromas of apricot and nectarine, spicy herbs and citrus fruits give a pleasant bouquet and depth. This wine is smoky, yet tender & elegant, expressive & mineral. The finish of this wine shines with its creaminess and fine citrus aromas. Ideal companion to fish like salmon or char, Asian cuisine or vegetarian dishes. Certified Organic & Vegan.

Region

Rheinhessen is a very famous wine region in Germany, located in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. It is one of the country’s 13 official wine regions and is known for its rich winemaking history and high-quality wines. Rheinhessen is the largest wine-producing region in Germany, covering an area of approximately 26,500 hectares of vineyards.

Rheinhessen lies to the west of the Rhine River and is bordered by the Nahe wine region to the northwest and the Pfalz wine region to the south. The region’s landscape is characterized by gently rolling hills and a temperate climate that is influenced by the river.

Climate & Terroir

Spring in Rheinhessen tends to be cool, which can be challenging for the early growth of grapevines. Frosts can occur in spring, posing a risk to the young buds.

Summers in Rheinhessen are generally warm, allowing the grapes to ripen and develop their flavors. However, the presence of the Rhine River and its cooling effect helps to prevent extreme heat waves.

The region benefits from a relatively long growing season, allowing the grapes to reach full maturity. This extended ripening period contributes to the development of complex flavors and balanced acidity in the wines.

The region’s moderate climate with warm days and cool nights in autumn is particularly favorable for the late ripening grape varieties like Riesling. This combination helps the grapes retain acidity while achieving sufficient sugar levels, leading to the production of high-quality wines.

Ideal drinking temperature 11° Celsius.
