Description

The Vineyards

The Garnacha vineyards have unique quality factors: They are in the hills, border between Ebro valley and Iberian mountains; bush vines in higher altitude, continental climate and stony soil.

Navarra DO

Navarra is a wine region in northern Spain, known for its diverse and high-quality wines. It is situated in the Ebro River basin, south of the Pyrenees Mountains, and shares borders with France to the northeast. The region has a rich history of winemaking, with evidence of vine cultivation dating back to the Roman era.

Terroir & Innovation

The region’s diverse geography, which includes plains, valleys, and mountains, contributes to the variety of wines produced. Different microclimates and soil types create ideal conditions for growing various grape varieties.

Navarra has a balance of traditional winemaking practices and a willingness to experiment with modern techniques. This combination allows winemakers to create wines that reflect both the region’s heritage and contemporary trends.

Vintage

It is a complex vintage, marked by the last month in harvest, there were almost perfect conditions until September, when torrential rains complicated matters. Sorting, selecting, and discarding grapes was key, after this, surprisingly, we are facing one of the top vintages ever.

Vinification

Grapes were harvested in the coolest hours of the evening, stripped from the stalks, and then cold-macerated, extracting the free-run juice after 12 hours of skin contact. The resulting grape must was then fermented using just indigenous yeasts. Once fermentation concluded, the wine was kept with its lees in a concrete 2,000-liter Stockinger foudre and five new
500-liter French oak barrels.

Wine

Fresh, floral and elegant, with purity and balance, and a spicy touch from the wood. It has a very tasty finish and even a salty twist, super fresh with lots of finesse. It has volume and freshness, with the vibrancy from an early harvest and the contained ripeness and alcohol. This is the style Zorzal wanted for this wine and took the time to find it; it’s almost more Burgundian than Mediterranean. It should age nicely in bottle and a bargain!

Ideal serving temperature 10ºC.
