Region

Côtes de Gascogne, located in Southwest France, is a renowned wine region best known for its fresh, aromatic white wines. Situated within the historic Gascony area, it shares its land with the famous Armagnac brandy production, benefiting from a unique climate and diverse terroir. While white wines dominate production, the region also produces a small amount of red and rosé wines that are smooth, fruit-forward, and easy to drink.

Climate & Terroir

Located in Southwest France, this region benefits from a unique combination of climate and terroir that shapes its fresh, aromatic wines. It enjoys an oceanic climate with continental influences, characterized by mild winters, warm, sunny summers, and cooling Atlantic breezes. This balance helps grapes ripen while retaining acidity, resulting in wines that are crisp and vibrant. The area also receives moderate rainfall, ensuring vines remain healthy without excessive drought stress.

The terroir of Côtes de Gascogne is diverse, with a mix of clay-limestone soils, which enhance acidity and minerality in white wines, and sandy and silty soils, which contribute to lighter, fruitier expressions. Additionally, gravel and alluvial deposits improve drainage and promote elegance in the wines. This varied soil composition allows the region to produce expressive, terroir-driven wines with a strong sense of place.

The impact of this climate and terroir is evident in the region’s wines. White wines, made from Colombard, Sauvignon Blanc, and Gros Manseng, are zesty, floral, and citrus-driven. Red wines, crafted from Merlot, Tannat, and Cabernet Sauvignon, tend to be smooth, juicy, and fruit-forward, while rosés are light, refreshing, and delicate. The result is a diverse range of wines that are both accessible and unique, offering exceptional value for everyday enjoyment.

Ideal drinking temperature 6°C.
