Description

Wine

The “Maestro” by Enza La Fauci is a Sicilian red wine from the province of Messina, made from 100% Nocera grapes. This wine shows an intense ruby red color with purplish hints. An aromatic wine with scents of mint, eucalyptus, liquorice and a citrus finish. In the mouth it is savoury and with a sweet tannin. It is a taste of great elegance, which is beautiful to sip and so capable of transporting you to the hills of Faro, a magical place, among the most beautiful and least known in all of eastern Sicily but which can give unique wines with a strong Mediterranean character.

The Grape

Nocera is a red grape variety primarily grown in southern Italy, particularly in the regions of Calabria and Sicily. Nocera grapes typically produce dark-colored wines with moderate to high acidity. The wines made from Nocera grapes often have flavors of red berries, plums, and sometimes hints of spice and earthiness. With are only about 30 hectares of this grape planted worldwide, making these wines really rare.

The Region

Faro DOC is a wine appellation located in the province of Messina, in the northeastern part of Sicily, Italy. It is one of the lesser-known and smaller wine regions in Sicily. It is known for producing unique and distinctive red wines. The vineyards are located on the slopes of hills overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.

The unique terroir of the Faro region, characterized by volcanic soils, sea breezes, and a Mediterranean climate, contributes to the distinctiveness of the wines. The proximity to the sea and the volcanic soils impart minerality and freshness to the wines. These vines are situated at an altitude of 330m above sea level on a clay-limestone mix soil.

Vinification

The grapes are cold macerated prior fermentation with indigenous yeasts. Aged for 18 months in used oak barrels prior release.
