Malma is a term native to Patagonia, meaning pride. Pride in the journey taken and in what has been accomplished. Bodega Malma, owned by the Viola family, pioneers in viticulture in San Patricio del Chañar, honors its name by filling us with pride with wines that reflect the terroir and the care put into them.
Patagonia
The Patagonia wine region, located in the southern part of Argentina, is a notable and emerging wine-producing area. It spans across two provinces: Río Negro and Neuquén. San Patricio del Chañar is a notable sub-region located in the Neuquén Province of Patagonia, Argentina. This area has gained recognition for its high-quality wines and unique terroir. It’s situated in the northwestern part of Neuquén Province at an altitude of approximately 300 to 400 meters above sea level.
The region has a cool, dry climate with significant diurnal temperature variation. This means there is a large difference between daytime and night time temperatures, which is ideal for viticulture. The cool nights help to preserve acidity in the grapes, while the warm days promote ripening. The soils in San Patricio del Chañar are predominantly alluvial, with a mix of sand, clay, and gravel. These well-drained soils are conducive to growing high-quality grapes with concentrated flavors.
