Description

Wine

Made from indigenous and very rare Nocera grape, “Petalo” is a golden and bright orange coloured wine that on the nose expresses intense notes of blood oranges, burnt orange peel, and an intense mineral backbone while revealing a smooth and a savoury mouthfeel with persistent freshness.

The Grape

Nocera is a red grape variety primarily grown in southern Italy, particularly in the regions of Calabria and Sicily. Nocera grapes typically produce dark-colored wines with moderate to high acidity.  With are only about 30 hectares of this grape planted worldwide, making these wines really rare.

The Region

Faro DOC is a wine appellation located in the province of Messina, in the northeastern part of Sicily, Italy. It is one of the lesser-known and smaller wine regions in Sicily. It is known for producing unique and distinctive red wines. The vineyards are located on the slopes of hills overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.

The unique terroir of the Faro region, characterized by volcanic soils, sea breezes, and a Mediterranean climate, contributes to the distinctiveness of the wines. The proximity to the sea and the volcanic soils impart minerality and freshness to the wines. These vines are situated at an altitude of 330m above sea level on a clay-limestone mix soil.

Vinification

Grown at an altitude of 330meters above sea level on a clay & limestone mixed soil. Hand harvested, the grapes go through a careful selection before a cold maceration of 6 hours. The must will be gently pressed and fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel vats. The wine is further aged in stainless steel vats and then refined in bottle before its released.

Food Suggestions

Deep and engaging, Enza La Fauci’s “Petalo” is a Rosé like no other. Great wine to pair with grilled calamari, rice dishes, white meats, pizza or as an aperitif. This is an unfiltered wine and contains traces of natural calcium tartrates.
