Description

Wine

“Dark ruby-garnet with violet reflexes, lots of juice and dark fruit in the nose, some nougat and spicy aromas, herbal and earthy, juicy dark berries on the palate, good and very long lasting structure with ripe tannins at the back”

Vineyard

Ried Haidacker is situated in Göttlesbrunn – with the 2017 vintage, the Ried Haidacker was classified as the best location in Carnuntum and is therefore one of the most important locations in the entire region. Nutritious loess soil with gravel infiltration. At 35 years old, the oldest and best Zweigelt vineyards are situated here in Ried Haidacker. The barren gravel on the surface allows the vines to root deeply and the nutrient-rich loess soil below constantly supplies the vines with sufficient nutrients and water, which leads to an intense, juicy and dark fruit in the grapes. The favored south-south-east location means optimal exposure to the sun. The nearby Danube with its cool winds also preserves the freshness and tension of the fruit.

Region

Carnuntum is a wine region located in eastern Austria, near the city of Vienna. It is known for its long history of winemaking, even dating back to the time of the ancient Romans. The region takes its name from the ancient Roman city of Carnuntum, which was an important military and trading center during the Roman Empire.

Vinification

Only very ripe grapes from a  selective hand picking, selection are used. Great control in the vineyard with  selection of bunches and single berries in the cellar before fermentation.  Fermentation takes place in wooden fermentation vats at maximum 30 °C with regular flooding of the mash and manual pump overs & punch downs in order to achieve maximum extraction of colour, aroma and tannins. A maceration lasting 4 weeks takes place after fermentation. Malolactic fermentation is carried out in 500 liter barrels. Rest time is carried out in 500 liter used barrels for 18 months. The cuvée is assembled in mid-April, after careful sensory control, followed by another 2 months rest in tank.

Enjoy with fried dark meat with a strong sauce, spicy cheese or enjoy the wine on it’s own.

 Ideal drinking temperature 18°C.
