Description

Wine

Quite opulent on the nose with a hint of butter and ripe yellow fruit, notes of flint give a defining backbone. Flattering on the palate, with apricots and honeysuckle, ripe melon and stone fruit, accompanied by herbal and salty-mineral notes. An excellent accompaniment at the table and, thanks to the volcanic soil of the vineyard, a surprising Pinot Gris. Although smoky on the finish, this characteristic does not dominate – an elegant but not reserved wine.

Region

Baden is situated in the federal state of Baden-Württemberg, bordering France to the west and Switzerland to the south. It stretches from the northern part of the Black Forest to the northern outskirts of the city of Basel.

Baden is known for its vibrant wine culture, and various wine festivals and events take place throughout the year. These festivals provide an excellent opportunity for locals and visitors alike to taste and enjoy the region’s wines.

Climate & Terroir

The region benefits from a relatively mild climate, thanks to its proximity to the Rhine River and the shelter provided by the Black Forest to the east. The diverse terroir of the region, including various soil types and microclimates, allows for the cultivation of a wide range of grape varieties.

Vineyard

Sandy loam is held by light limestone marl, which is based on a thick layer of loam. In the depths lie the rocky ridges of the Black Forest foothills. The Sommerhalde Bombach is located in the eastern part of the Breisgau region, facing south, directly adjacent to the Black Forest. The wines benefit from the strong sunshine and the nocturnal streams of cold air that blow in from the Black Forest. The noticeable difference in temperature between day and night promotes a slow ripening of the pinot grapes with finely balanced harmony and fruity aromas.

Ideal drinking temperature 10 °C.
