Description

Cuvée “Aure” 2023

For Maison Ventenac, a rosé should be: subtly fruity, fresh, fine, harmonious, lightly acidulated and pleasant tasting, for pure pleasure. This one ticks all the boxes for! We hope it ticks all your boxes too. After harvest grapes are sorted and fully crushed with a pneumatic press. Processing of first juices under inert gas ( at 5°C, cold clarification and fermentation at 18°C in 300 hl stainless steel tanks. No malolactic fermentation, maturation and ageing on fine lees for 2 months. On the nose; aromas of ripe strawberry and raspberry while palate is fruity, round and a lively lingering finish. Serve at 6°C – 8°C.

Cuvée “Marie” 2023

To really enjoy the Cuvée “Marie”, you have to enjoy the simple, direct and immediate things in life. This wine is mainly about fruit intensity, citrus generally and grapefruit specifically. Then it’s about tightness, freshness and finally, it’s a bit of iodine, saline and sapidity. Everything you need to pour a bit of sunshine into your glass. Nocturnal harvest.

After sorting the grapes are pressed in a pneumatic press. Cold stabilization during 6 days and cold clarification. Fermentation at 15°in 300hl stainless steel tanks. No malolactic fermentation. Aged on fine lees for 2 months. Tropical fruits on the nose, ripe melon and mango that transforms on the palate into crisp and juicy green apple and lemon zestiness. This is mouthwatering and moreish, not overly complex, but fresh, driven and precise with a long citrus finish.

Grüner Veltliner 2022

“Marked aroma of the variety with no shortage of fruits such as green apples, on the palate peppery spice, fresh balanced.” Coming from the vineyards of  Rothenberg, Haidacker & Hagelsberg with red gravel and nutritious loess with some gravel soils.  All of the three vineyards are cooler places, which benefit from the chilled winds of the nearby River Danube, especially during hot summers.

This factor allows for the intensive aromatic and fizzy acidity in the grapes to be preserved. Specifically “Rothenberg” with its’ red gravel (iron) brings minerality and the typical “pepper” to this Grüner Veltliner. Enjoy with Austrian kitchen such as Wiener Schnitzel, roasted or fried chicken, pickled knuckle of pork, cold buffet, fish and seafood. Ideal drinking temperature 8 °C.

Réserve de Jeanne 2020

This wine is the winemaker’s uncompromising interpretation of a Cabardès, that is to say a fresh but tender wine, a correct but comfortable wine. Built around Cabernet Franc and oceanic Syrah, the Réserve de Jeanne veers away from the typicalities of the region. After harvest and sorting, grapes are fully crushed with pre-fermentation cold maceration for 5 days at 6° Celsius. Fermentation at 28° Celsius in 300 hl stainless steel tanks with no sulphite vinification and indigenous yeast.

Daily pump overs with a vatting length of 30 days followed by malolactic fermentation. 30% of the blend matured for 12 months in 225 l oak barrels and 70% of the blend matured in cement vats with micro oxygenation. A complex and characterful wine here – atypical in that it offers so much more than juicy plum fruit and is more like a full bodied Rhône wine. On the nose there are aromas of bramble and hedgerow, a bit herbaceous, alongside roasted herbs. The palate has a fresh expression of this terroir with intense aromas of red fruits with spicy notes, a well balanced structure and elegant tannins.

L’Idiot 2022 – Fucking Merlot

” “I am not drinking any fucking Merlot!” This familiar phrase among wine lovers might well be true… if it wasn’t spoken by a complete idiot. When Merlot grapes are vinified without sulfur, using native yeast, and then aged in concrete vats, Merlot can produce the sort of nice, feisty wine that is in this bottle!
A free winemaker”

100% Merlot and declassified as Vin de France, this is part of the limited bottled ” Les Dissidents” range. Following a number of experiments, a whole instinctive range comprised of micro-cuvees and varietal wines, prohibited by the appellation, in truly exclusive, libertarian style with a choice of what the winemaker believe to be the best varieties of the soil, this unclassified range of French wine defies the institutions, their regulations and conventional wine.

Yield of just 35 hectoliters per hectare with non sulfite fermentation with indigenous yeasts and bio-protection (by using non saccharomyces yeasts to avoid brettanomyces.) Post fermentation maceration for 10 days at 35 degrees Celsius, malolactic fermentation and aging for 3 months in concrete tanks. A juicy, explosive, and unique wine! Fresh, intense, and mineral. The kind of wine that could change the image of merlot. Fresh and crunchy with grassy fruit and fine
tannins.

Garnacha 2022

This wine is the result of a clear commitment to respect the tradition with local grapes such as Garnacha, and a concern for the environment through the use of organic production techniques. This is the product of two generations of the Sanz family’s profound knowledge of what their land can produce. This is a complex vintage, winter was mild but spring was very rainy and cold. Flowering and verasion were 20 days later than previous vintage, although due to the high temperatures in September, the delay was compensated in 2 weeks.

Rain was the most prominent element of the vintage after 2 years of water drought but there was an extra effort in the vineyard management. It the end it was a historically fresh and good vintage. The grapes were harvested by hand when they reached optimum ripeness in each single vineyard. They were picked up and transported to the winery in small boxes. Fermentation temperatures were between 24º and 26ºC, to preserve the character of the fruit. The grapes then undergo a soft pressing and pumping over before bottling. Dry, fresh, soft tannins and medium body with red fruit flavours, mineral hints and a long finish.
