The grapes used in this wine come from several small vineyards planted in granitic soil between 100 and 200 meters above sea level. Having started at the end of August, the harvest of this vintage was the earliest ever carried out, but it has shown an excellent balance between the fruitiness and acidity of the Alvarinho variety. The rainfall in the summer months, especially in July and August, was very low, and daytime temperatures were moderate to high. However, it was the characteristic of cold nights of this terroir that favoured slow ripening, and the preservation of the aromas.
At the end of August, the ideal point of ripening was reached. With a dry start to September, at moderate temperatures, the end of the harvest proved to be extraordinary. Pressed as whole grape clusters and fermented in stainless steel vats, this wine achieves a balance of sweetness and acidity that define the 9% abv. It pairs dangerously well with spicy foods.
Grapes for this wine are cultivated organically, harvested by hand and come from old vines with more than 40 years of age. Fermentation takes place at a very low temperature in stainless steel vats, with only 15% being carried out in used oak barrels. Wine is left on its lees until the beginning of May with a percentage of the blend being partially aged in large oak casks. Elegant, mineral and a wine that grows in your glass with a long complex finish.
VINTAGES is unique and new to the German wine world and is intended to show how much fun, soul and variety there is in combining several vintages that complement each other perfectly. It is a wine that gives a foretaste of where the world of mature Rieslings can lead by combining several vintages, different weather patterns, maturation stages, personal intuition and above all a fusion of aromas. This idea is new, since in Germany and at Dreissigacker as well normally the focus is on vintage-related development in order to bring out the special characteristics of every single vintage. VINTAGES should deliberately deviate from this.
This Riesling shows the mineral freshness of the 2020, the elegance 2019 vintage, has the balance, the rounded and developed style as a strong middle of the 2018 vintage and the fine ripe aromas of a carefully matured wine from the 2017 vintage in the finale. Hand-picked grapes, gentle pressing, cold maceration period up to 8 hours, spontaneous fermentation with natural yeasts, fermentation and maturation in stainless steel (80%) and 1200L German oak barrels (20%). Light straw yellow colour with aromas of white flowers, citrus and apple. Palate has great juiciness and fruitiness, well balanced minerality and a superb finish. Certified Organic & vegan.
Made from Grecanico grapes on the slopes of Mount Etna at an altitude of 1,200 meters above sea level on mineral volcanic soils, “Incanto” sports a straw yellow colour with a greenish rim. Hand harvested at the beginning of November in small 10kg crates, the grapes go through a careful selection before a cold maceration for 18 hours at 6 degrees takes place. The must will be gently pressed and fermented. Aged for 3 months in barriques and a further 3 months in stainless steel vats. Eclectic, dry, fresh and with balanced vegetal sensations, minerality and hints of citrus. “Incanto” is a great white wine to pair with great fish dishes, white meats and fresh cheeses.
The estate wines are characterized by the variety of vineyards and are therefore the calling card of this winery. The vines ripen exclusively in the prime locations around Bechtheim and Westhofen. The characteristic variety of the soils and the high maturity give them their special expression. A creation of young vines, planted on the traditional soil of the Bechtheimer terroir. Through strong reduction in yield, these young vines unfold their full power. The fact that the vines in Rheinhessen sprouted later than usual in 2021 can be seen as a stroke of luck, as it meant that they were spared the night frosts in April. Also, partly due to the fungal pressure caused by the wetness, the winegrowing year differed from the three hot and dry previous years.
The late start of the harvest in mid-September compared to previous years was a fortunate coincidence, as sunny days in September contributed decisively to the harvesting of a very appealing vintage. Ripening in the cool produces fruity wines that offer a wide range of aromas even with moderate alcohol content. In addition, there is a fresh acidity – one of the main characteristics of German white wines. Skin contact up to 48 hours with spontaneous fermentation in 100% wooden barrels (500 liters Tonneau & 2,400 liters) with extended yeast contact. Creamy character with clear minerality, excellent drinkability & exotic fruit. Certified Organic & vegan.
“Ripe fruits like melons and a hint of pear on the nose, nuts and honey, well-structured and full-bodied palate, an abundance of juice, elegant freshness, creamy with endless pleasure.” Coming from the single vineyard Altenberg in Göttlesbrunn with Danube gravel and loess lower layers soil. One of the cooler hills in with influences coming from the close forest and east-facing exposure. The Pinot blanc loves the Pannonian climate with its warm late summers and falls. It is because of this combination the grapes get exceptionally ripe and makes the achievement of such an extraordinary extract on the palate possible. Enjoy with vegetable and meat-dishes with exotic herbs, Asian dishes, soufflés and pastries & cheese. Ideal drinking temperature 10 °C.
