This project was started in 2004 by Alexander and Carrie Vik, driven by their passion and desire to create a unique and extraordinary wine. They ventured into this ambitious project with the will to achieve one single-minded goal: create a wine that would enter the Pantheon of the great wines of the world.
With this in mind, and with the same determination that led Alexander to succeed in other businesses, they started following this path and encountered their first challenge: finding the best terroir for red wine. With a team of oenologists, climatologists, geologists, viticulturists and agronomists led by Patrick Vallete (former owner of Château Pavie in Saint-Émilion), they began a thorough search of South America to find the location that met all the requirements to produce the perfect grapes that could, in time, give life to an unprecedented wine. After a two year extensive search, the choice of optimal climatic and soil conditions led them to purchase over 4,300 hectares of astonishing Chilean wilderness where they planted over 327 hectares of vines.
VIK vineyard was born amidst the foothills of the Andes mountains, within the Millahue Valley, named ‘Lugar de Oro’ or ‘Golden Place’ by the native Mapuche people.
Terroir
VIK’s terroir offers a majestic and natural landscape composed of 12 valleys, each one with its own micro-climate, distinct exposures, all within a wind-tunnel cooled by Pacific coastal breezes and winds from high up in the Andes mountains that provide VIK with enormous complexity and exceptional variety. A perfect terroir which, combined with the best viti and viniculture has led VIK to produce a wine that is just now entering the Pantheon of the world’s best wines.
Elegant, voluptuous, complex and balanced, the holistic VIK wines are world class and perfect to enjoy today or for long-term aging. These exceptional and unique wines are each a different blend of some of the varietals that VIK grows including Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Carménère, Syrah and Merlot.
