Description

“Small doors that open and small doors that close” Pequeñas Puertas – small doors – is the name of a new project resulting from the sum of VZW and Matías Michelini: their purest interpretation of historical Navarran grape varieties from unique terroirs and landscapes. This is a complex vintage, winter was mild but spring was very rainy and cold. Flowering and veraison were 20 days later than previous vintage, altough due to the high temperatures in September, the delay was compensated in 2 weeks. Rain was the most prominent element of the vintage after 2 years of water. deficit but there was an extra effort in the vineyard management. It the end It was a historically fresh and good vintage. Grapes are 100% Garnacha Roya and come from the single parcel of La Carbonela in the village of Cintruénigo. Big selection of garnacha roya in the vineyard, vine by vine, as they are mixed with red garnacha. 100% destemmed, fermentation in a 1000-liter tank, skin contact until the last day of fermentation, punching down manually everyday. It has moderate alcohol and notable acidity. Once fermentation was over, it was pressed and the wine was put in a used 500-liter oak barrel, where it matured for 15 months. This is similar to a claret, with some aromatic notes that could make you think of a white and the palate that is more of a red—it has the tannins from the skin and also the input from the barrel. It has a delicious profile, with lively acidity and finesse. This should evolve nicely in bottle; it would be very interested to see what this wine is in five years. Only 660 bottles were filled in February 2020. Serve between 14 º and 16ºC.
