Region
Carnuntum is a wine region located in eastern Austria, near the city of Vienna. It is known for its long history of winemaking, even dating back to the time of the ancient Romans. The region takes its name from the ancient Roman city of Carnuntum, which was an important military and trading center during the Roman Empire.
Coming from a blend of several vineyards with loam and loess soils. The Pannonian climate and the influence of the River Danube and the Lake Neusiedl bring very ripe grapes with good tannins, a deep color and intensive aromas of cassis and cherry as well as an elegant spice. Here the fresh cherry fruit of the Zweigelt combine with the spice and dark berries of the Blaufränkisch, alongside the full-bodied structure of Merlot.
Vinification
Hand harvested with selective picking in large boxes. Whole clusters & single berries gently fermented in temperature-controlled, stainless steel tank, 28-30 °C for optimal extraction of the colour, aroma and tannins in the skins while still maintaining freshness and fruit aromas & flavors. Maceration for 2 weeks after the end of fermentation. Malolactic fermentation immediately following fermentation in steel tanks and aging in large oak barrels for 8 months.
Enjoy with cold meat-dishes or classic Austrian kitchen with pork and beef, roasted duck, spicy chicken, Mediterranean dishes & cheese.
Ideal drinking temperature 16°C.
