The family’s agricultural business had always been characterized by viticulture, but it was only in 1998, that Fritz Waßmer, at the age of 45, decided to become a successful winegrower himself. Right at the beginning, he set himself the goal of creating powerful, concentrated wines based on the Burgundian model, a style which was not typically used in the Baden region of Germany at the time. When his first wines came on the market in 1999, these were exceptional, full of concentration and strength. The unmistakable Burgundian touch comes from the viticultural experiences that Fritz Waßmer himself was able to garner from, among others, his time spent in the cellars of the “Domaine de la Romanée Conti”.
