Description

The Region

The Millahue Valley is situated within the Cachapoal Valley, which itself is part of the larger Rapel Valley wine region in central Chile. It is located to the west of the Andes Mountains and benefits from a Mediterranean climate with warm summers and cool ocean breezes from the nearby Pacific Ocean.

It’s characterized by diverse soils, including alluvial and colluvial soils, which contribute to the region’s unique terroir. The valley’s proximity to the Pacific Ocean and the Andes Mountains also plays a role in creating different microclimates within the region.

The Winery

Viña VIK is a renowned winery located in the Millahue Valley, Chile. It is known for producing high-quality wines in a state-of-the-art facility and vineyards situated in a picturesque setting in the foothills of the Andes Mountains. Viña VIK is notable for its commitment to producing premium wines and its dedication to art, architecture, and sustainability.

The Star Grape

Carmenère is a red wine grape variety that has a unique and interesting history. It was originally one of the six classic grape varieties used in Bordeaux, France, where it was primarily used for blending in Bordeaux-style red wines. However, Carmenère virtually disappeared from European vineyards following the phylloxera epidemic in the 19th century.

Today, Carmenère is best known as a signature grape of Chile, where it has found a new home and thrives.

The Wine

The Piu Belle 2018 elegantly shows the new face of Carmenere. Aromas of blackberries combine with ripe plums and fine spices delivering freshness. Notes of blue flowers, violets, and lavender unfurl in the glass like the cool sea breezes which nightly sweep the vineyards. Vivid and precise, dynamic tannins mark the mid-palate. Bright acidity gives the wine an almost endless finish.

Twenty-four months of aging in French oak marries flavors of blue fruits with nuances of rich coffee and mocha. This intriguing combination expresses the spirit of the new world imparting a memory that lasts a lifetime.

Ideal serving temperature 16ºC.
