White wine is made from the juice of light-colored or white grapes. The skins is almost always separated from the juice during the winemaking process, resulting in a wine that is lighter in color compared to red wine. White wines can vary in flavor, aroma, sweetness, acidity, and body depending on factors such as the grape variety, winemaking techniques, and aging process.
White wine can be made from various grape varieties, each contributing its own unique characteristics. I stock white wines made from popular red grape varieties but also some which are more off the beaten path. Riesling, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Alvarinho, Pinot Gris, Loureiro, Grenache Blanc, Viura, Pinot Blanc, Gewürztraminer, Grecanico dell’Etna, Zibibbo (Muscat of Alexandria), Gros Manseng, Vermentino (Rolle), Petite Arvine, Grüner Veltliner, Welschriesling, Verdejo, Malvasia Fina, Códega de Larinho, Rabigato, Viognier, Muscat Blanc & Petit Grains, Petit Manseng and Chenin Blanc. Different grape varieties result in white wines with different flavor profiles, acidity levels, and aging potential.
